Solent already helps deliver sports, coaching and fitness across the city, and the ABP Southampton Marathon is providing another fantastic opportunity for Solent students to gain real-world experience: students are getting involved in music production, cheerleading, event management, volunteering, sound engineering and more. Look out for them along the race route!

With just a few months to go until the big day and as official education partner Solent University is delighted to offer participants and partners the chance to attend this great event and learn more about how to prepare for the race, and boost and sustain your running performance.
This year, you'll have the opportunity to participate in various interactive activities, as well as hear from industry leading professionals. Below is a schedule of the evening:
5pm: Doors open, networking and light refreshments.
5.30pm: Interactive sessions.
6.30pm: Welcome and short lectures.
6.30-6.50pm: Dr Ali Hill - 'Nutrition for training and race day'.
6.50-7.10pm: Martin Skivington - 'Movement matters: how improving your basic movement capacity can enhance your running performance'.
7.10-7.30pm: Liam Network - 'Injury prevention in a runner- what does this look like'?
7.30pm: Networking /1:1 discussions.
You may choose to attend two Interactive sessions during the evening. Details on the sessions can be found below. Come along and find out how easy it is to make your own sports drinks and what the perfect recovery drink is. Plenty of opportunity to ask those burning questions you have on nutrition for training and race day.
Martin Skivington, Head of Health and Exercises Sciences, Solent University - Improve your performance and eliminate pain with a tennis ball.
This workshop will show you how to use a tennis ball to identify and reduce muscular pain. Warning: participants may experience enhanced running performance (and minor discomfort) from attending this workshop
Liam Newton, Physiotherapist, Jonathan Clark Physiotherapy - Injury Prevention for runners - what does this look like?
Ever wondered how you would perform during a physiotherapist lead, running specific screening session? This session explores muscle capacity tests of key muscle groups, muscle length tests and a balance assessment. The findings of this can be used to devise a strength and conditioning / injury reduction exercise circuit. This practical session will then complement the evenings lecture.
