London Alternative

London Alternative

Welcome to the ABP Southampton Marathon all you who are disappointed by the result of the London Marathon Ballot! For the last five years we have been one of the premier Alternatives to the London Marathon and we back on our normal weekend for 2020 which puts us on the exact same day as the London Marathon, so that you can still run a big city marathon on the 26th of April.

If you still want to run a marathon on the 26th of April, with the big city buzz and support, in the South East on a course with a flat overall profile then this year turn your disappointment into joy by joining us in Southampton!

While we are clearly not the London Marathon and we do not claim to be, there are some striking similarities between the two events! Were you looking forward to:

  • The support that is offered in Southampton we believe can match any race, anywhere. We consistently get comments from people praising the amazing support of Southampton residents for the runners taking part in the Marathon!

  • Running in April - the perfect time of year with the best chance of good weather for running!

  • Both events have similar course profiles with only a few hundred feet of elevation difference, so your target time for London will still be realistic in Southampton!

  • Many people want to run the London Marathon for charity but after being unable to secure a ballot place are concerned about taking up a charity space due to the high minimum fundraising requirements. Did you know we have a selection of charity partners with lower fundraising requirements and you can sign up and run for any charity you like as an 'own place' runner.

  • We aren't just a Marathon, we also offer a half option if you are not feeling quite up to a full marathon at the moment and a 10K perhaps for a family member who is new to running!

  • Big city buzz! As we are expecting to hit 10,000 runners for the first time ever in 2020 Southampton will be turned into a runners paradise with excitement and entertainment a plenty!
