Southampton Hospital Charity have had runners take part at every race since it began in 2015 and their runners in 2019 raised a fantastic £50,000. The charity had over 200 runners take part in the event last year, across the four distances; marathon, half marathon, 10k and mile fun run! They also had support from their volunteers on the day, who helped to marshal the route, earning the charity an extra £250.
The 2020 event will mark three years of this official partnership. Kelly Metcalfe from Southampton Hospital Charity says “Sponsoring the ABP Southampton Marathon is the highlight of our events calendar. The race is a great opportunity for us to engage our supporters on home turf and is proving ever popular, with growing numbers of our supporters taking on the challenge. We are excited about our partnership and about enabling our supporters to challenge themselves and make a real difference to their local hospital”.
With the support of our community, Southampton Hospital Charity helps to enhance the world class care and treatment of patients at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) and Princess Anne Hospital by raising funds and providing financial support to areas of the hospital service that lie beyond the scope of NHS funding.
UHS provides services to some 1.9 million people living in Southampton and south Hampshire, plus specialist services such as neurosciences, cardiac services and children's intensive care to more than 3.7 million people in central southern England and the Channel Islands.
Running the ABP Southampton Marathon for Southampton Hospital Charity, helps to raise vital funds that make a real impact to the patients, families and staff who visit UHS.
The ABP Southampton Marathon organisers, ReesLeisure, are excited that the partnership is continuing.
