Solent already helps deliver sports, coaching and fitness across the city, and the ABP Southampton Half Marathon is providing another fantastic opportunity for Solent students to gain real-world experience: students are getting involved in music production, cheerleading, event management, volunteering, sound engineering and more. Look out for them along the race route!

Top Tips for a Successful Marathon - Pre Marathon Event



Join Southampton Solent University and Nuffield Health as industry experts share practical tips to help you prepare for the ABP Southampton Marathon.


With just a few months to go until the ABP Southampton Marathon we are delighted to offer participants and partners the opportunity to hear from industry experts and share tips on how to prepare, boost and sustain your performance inside the Spark building at Solent University.


Our guest speakers will cover a variety of topics, from how to reduce the risk of injury to looking at what constitutes a good diet, our guest speakers will cover a variety of topics to help you reach your maximum performance.


Our guest speakers include:

- Dr Mike Rossiter, Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine who will discuss Distance running - injuries and prevention

- Melanie Healey, Consultant at Nuffield Health who will explore When should you see a Podiatrist?

- Martin Skivington, Head of Health and Exercise Science at Southampton Solent University who will share an insight to effective fitness training programmes.


As well as enjoying a buffet and networking with other marathon participants you will also have the chance to tour Southampton Solent University’s newly improved health and fitness studios.

A variety of local organisations will also be showcasing support services and clubs available across the city to help support you in preparing for the marathon.

If you are unable to make a 6pm start you can still meet with our experts by attending the post event drop in which starts at 7.30pm and is due to include fitness circuits with Nuffield Health's very own Personal Trainer, Claire.
